My greatest passion has always been writing. As a child, I filled notebooks, Post-It stacks, memo pads, and any piece of paper I could find with fantastic stories of adventure. My love for creating stories and characters has never dimmed, and has been joined by a love for essays in literary criticism and social justice. I experience, process, and enjoy the world around me by writing, both creatively and critically, and I’ve always known I would make a career of doing what I love by publishing my work. I believe that writers have a responsibility to publish work that improves the world. I want to be an author who is remembered for the social commentary in her works and the power of those works to effect real social change. I want to change the world by exposing the injustices perpetuated against marginalized groups in society, by critiquing the power structures that subjugate these groups, by depicting the consequences of environmental destruction, and by suggesting compassion, inclusivity, and environmental responsibility as solutions. I’m going to do this by doing what I love to do most in the world: by writing stories. I’m taking steps to make this dream a reality by looking at colleges and universities with graduate programs in creative writing, by planning a summer internship with a local publishing company for next year, by seeking out contacts in the publishing industry, and by constantly working to improve my writing skills in the hope of publishing pieces in literary magazines.
