No parent wants to hear their child say, “I want to be a comedian.” However, making another person laugh is the best feeling there is. When I graduate from college, my heart will still be in comedy. I believe that teachers, authors and comedians shape the world most drastically. Everyone needs a laugh to forget the surrounding negativity. Comedians take audiences to a different world when they’re performing. Executing a comedy set for a crowd is very difficult. Seriously, it’s really hard! Comedy is performing jokes for a crowd that have different life experiences. Some may find your jokes funny, some unfunny and some may find them offensive. In the end, there’s no better feeling than delivering an original joke and receiving an overwhelming response. It’s emotional, uplifting and so powerful. That’s why I always have comedy sets ready to perform at open microphones. I will join the improv comedy club so I can get more experience performing. I want to perform so well that a manager asks me back as a regular, paying just enough to cover the studio apartment the size of my dorm and a Ramen dinner. I want the courage to follow that path when it comes, to live through that struggle when things don’t look so bright, knowing if I believe in my material and my ability, I will have my moment in the spotlight. And when that moment comes, you can say, “I remember reading his essay. He’s a bit shorter than I imagined.”
