Writing and performing music that helps adolescents cope with their everyday lives for a living would be a phenomenal dream come true. As a teen this day in age, one is pressured to live up to everyone’s expectations, whether those expectations be family or friend oriented. There’s such a weight on the modern teen to be “perfect,” in a sense, to where one my go to any extent to be successful in order to keep the people around them satisfied. My music would help the modern teen understand that it’s okay to not be perfect because in reality, nobody is. The songs I write would express that everyone makes mistakes and that one cannot beat themselves up for them; moreover, they would convey the fact that “you are your only opponent,” and that nobody can stop one from attaining their own dreams and aspirations. Furthermore, in order to make this dream a reality, I would have to set my own goals in order to do so. A major goal of mine would be to actually get serious about writing my music and having various teens read the lyrics and receive feedback from them telling me if the words actually spoke to them in a way as to help them find the strength to carry on each day; and lastly, one of my goals would be to perform at open mic nights at various places around the city to get my songs out into society.
