If I could earn a living doing what I loved most professionally I would chose to become a Sports Medicine Pediatrician. I believe that youth sports are the best kept secret in our society and are slowly falling out of favoritism with current society as more sedentary lifestyle are being preferred. The need for medical advocacy for participation in youth sports is a unique yet challenging way for Pediatricians to bring about healthier lifestyles for the youth in our society. Many youth of today sedentary lifestyles is not brought about unexpectedly instead it is a result of generations of sedentary lifestyles by family members and other peers however if participation in youth sports by one member of this family can possibly bring about numerous positive health benefits for the entire family. I believe it’s near impossible to get adults to change inactive behaviors voluntarily until a health scare is present yet if their child can be the starting point of change to more active lifestyles I see more families would be eager to jump on board and feel a sense of responsibility to do so. This by no means will change the world overnight however I stand firm in the belief that if a few health pediatricians begin to look beyond just the typical recommendations for healthier lifestyles and begin to actually advocate for youth sport participation regardless of skill set but means of overall improvement of health it will yield results that will change the world.
