My dream career would be to become a professional acapella writer. My art lives in a space between rapper and spoken word artist. I enjoy rapping and the tone, inflection, flow and creativity that can lie within crafting a verse. Yet, I enjoyed the silence of performing spoken word piece because it calls completely attention to the words and messages being delivered instead of the accompanying music.

I would use the platform to create socially aware and conscious pieces that speak on religion, politics, relationships and any other noteworthy moments. I would develop the pieces into a short minute long videos that could be aired as commercials. I would have them squeezed into television programs. I would ideally have them aired on various channels all depending on the subject of the piece.

Secondly, I would like to build a production team that specifically would help artists become exposure through cable and satellite programming. I would love to have a program that explored the themes of songs by major artists from any genre. I would title it “The Story of the Song”. I would involve the artist, writers and producers all showing the process behind creating the song. I would also include fan feedback from chosen viewer to show how the song impacted their personal life. I would also fly the fan in to meet the creators of the songs.

This is my life dream and winning this scholarship would help me further accomplish my goals in life. Thank you, Jalen.
