I want to change the world by assisting our nation’s recently released felons. The recidivism, or re-admittance rate, for recently released convicts is growing in the US. With few resources and many odds stacked against them, many felons feel forced back into crime. My hope is to assist those recently released by assisting them with day to day things that to them have become barriers. Whether that is helping them find housing, clothing, drivers license or even as basic as getting them hygiene necessities. Besides the one-on-one work I hope to do with these men and women, I also hope to help make changes on a city, state and national level. There are many laws keeping felons from certain job opportunities or housing situations. All laws that ultimately making it easier for the convicts to return to crime. I hope to shine a light on these unnecessary injustices, and hopefully make significant changes in how our society sees rehabilitated felons.
