My ambitions are to become a preschool special education teacher, and have an impact on the lives of young children. My plan to attain that is to attend college, obtain my degree, and continue working with children who have special needs, as I currently do through my volunteer work with Best Buddies, Special Olympics, and the Fox Valley Special Recreation Association (FVSRA).
Throughout high school, I have worked with Best Buddies, Special Olympics, and the FVSRA. All these organizations promote independence, acceptance, and understanding for people with disabilities. I hope I can continue to work with these organizations, and continue to have an impact on everyone.
My belief is that by working with younger children, you can have a greater impact on their lives and beliefs. You can work with them to understand that although we are all different on the outside, we truly are all the same on the inside. I have several lesson plan ideas to begin to foster the idea that we are all the same and how we can work towards accepting each other. I would also start programs similar to Best Buddies in my classrooms which would pair individual who are different together in projects, discussions, and friendships to further promote acceptance.
