Hip-hop has always been my main outlet for positive energy – dance allows me to connect with others through a shared passion. Any language barriers erode as the universal language of dance connects everyone in the studio – or on the streets. I am able to leave worries at the door and immerse myself in music and movement. Being surrounded by a unanimous enthusiasm for physical catharsis is exhilarating, but the most valuable thing that I have acquired from dancing is the fact that passion unites people, regardless of their backgrounds. The connection it draws across an otherwise eclectic community has inspired me to stick to my interests and taught me that a mutual passion overrides spoken words. The delicious combination of movement and music encourages people of all ages to get on their feet, throw away their inhibitions, and enjoy the magic within the music. Introducing others to the joys of dance fosters within myself and others a heightened sense of spontaneity and euphoria. I would have to start small – though I have already succeeded in persuading my non-dancing friends to jam to a beat in the privacy of our own homes – I would like to participate in dance clubs and activities in college as well. Spreading the positive vibes of dance is a surefire way to ignite passion within others and in turn, shape communities to be better integrated through a common thread of enjoyment.
