As an Electrical Engineering major, it may sound strange for me to say that if I could earn a living doing what I love most in order to change the world, it would be by writing poetry. Two years ago I was keeping a dream journal in hopes of teaching myself to lucid dream. However one morning something happened that changed everything. As I lay writing with my eyes closed my conscious mind lost the train of thought, and I began etching an elegant rhyming poem about dreaming. I was shocked and almost feared my notebook for the next couple days until I worked up the courage to sit back down and explore the new ability. From that moment I took to poetry like wings to a breeze.
When I felt passionate, I wrote. When I felt sad, I wrote. If I felt happy or confused or contemplative or in love, I wrote. My notebook filled up and I began recording my most impassioned poetic rants about chasing dreams and following hearts on my phone, then sending them to my family and friends. I was delighted to hear that my new way of understanding and describing the Universe was motivating and inspiring my loved ones. I have been published by the Toledo Poetry Project, and look forward to continue publishing my words to call a growing audience to their hearts. For I believe that there is nothing more world-changing than a person following their heart, and believing in their dreams.
