For many years now, volunteering has transformed as a hobby of mine to a growing passion. Specifically, my experience as a volunteer counselor for a youth leadership organization, gives me one of the greatest joys in my life, a feeling that no sport, art project, or any of my musical performances has given me. By working my way from Junior Counselor to now Senior Counselor, I help empower young high school student’s to actively change the community through leadership and service by helping them understand and recognize their potential to impact society at such a young age. However, I would love to create my own youth leadership organization that would help sponsor young adults with great community building ideas. First, I would get more experience as a Senior Counselor to develop fun programs that would speak most to young adults. I would fundraise at least $50,000 for my organization and appoint responsible adults that would guide executive decisions. Then, I would develop a support system for this organization, by reaching out to my college’s alumni, local high schools, supporter’s of H.O.B.Y, friends and family, and utilize social media to target other young adults. I would like to target high school’s on Long Island, and then if this prove to be a success, high school’s across the country. Many young adults have great ideas to change communities but often don’t have the resources to do so, and I would hope my organization would provide the means to make this happen.
