As a teenager I had the opportunity to live in a third-world country. The exposure to the poverty and the need for help created in me a passion for serving those who were suffering. I was able to accompany a nurse who worked in one of the most impoverished areas in the capital city and I was profoundly impacted by the need for the care she provided. I determined then that I would someday also take the time to give this sort of care to others.
There are many ways to create change in the world. There are so many good careers and admirable role models to follow. I simply can’t think of any I would rather do than work in a field which would improve the quality of life and even save it. My desire is that others would benefit from me to benefit others coming after me.
Years later, I have my own family and seven children. I am returning to school so that I can become a nurse and take those skills and my own children to another country to make a difference. My two passions in life are educating my children to not only knowledge but its application in our world, and nursing. I believe that I have found my calling as I pursue a career in the medical field. I can’t wait to see what is ahead of me as I try to cultivate both of my visions.
