As a working professional Registered Nurse, I enjoy caring for the sick and the elderly. It would seem then like I am doing a 360 by pursuing art and animation which is very different from healthcare. However, I hope to combine my love for helping others with animation to assist with creating an interactive decision-based game as an adjunct to learning for nursing students. An interactive game will aid in enforcing critical concepts learned in the classroom, act as a simulation to assist with transitioning from classroom to workplace, and will help students with prioritizing patients and decision making. The overall goal of creating an interactive decision-based game for nursing students is to help with critical thinking skills, retention rates, improve patient outcomes, and aid the nursing shortage. In order to pursue my goals, I am studying Media Arts specifically Illustration, Web Design, Animation, and I am pursuing a certificate program in computer programming. Within the next five to ten years, I hope to apply myself towards a Nurse Educator or Clinical Nurse Specialist program. Thus, my goal is combine nursing and interactive media to assist with teaching learners with hands-on and auditory learning styles.
