An underserved community is a group of people who do not have access to the health care and other basic services the rest of Americans enjoy. Whether its through isolation, old age, legal status, cultural barriers, or poverty, undeserved communities face greater risk of not being able to access the health care they need. These people are very vulnerable, sometimes by no fault of their own. My dream is to be a nurse to underserved communities.
Every human being deserves the right to be treated fairly, and live a full and happy life. As a nurse I will joyfully and steadfastly work to help people in underserved communities. Nursing is not merely a job for me, it is a passion I feel called to. It will be my greatest honor to help heal the people living in underserved communities. I know I want to go to work everyday serving people who are typically ignored. People in underserved communities are often the bearers of unrecognized treasure. Sometimes society doesn’t recognize the value, and sometimes the individuals themselves have not seen it yet either. However, their stories, their rich cultural traditions, their bonds of friendship, their talents and their lives all have value. I recognize nursing as an important step in helping people unearth and preserve the treasure of their own dignity. Being treated respectfully is the catalyst underserved communities need in order to change the world.
