My name is Cindy, I am the mother of five adult children, and I am returning to school to become a Registered Nurse. As long as I can remember, I have wanted to become either a nurse or a teacher. I have chosen to pursue nursing because I have a desire to help people and a passion for medicine. I believe nurses change the world every day, in big and small ways. Whether helping to bring a new baby into the world, holding the hand of a patient who is scared, or advocating for someone who is at their weakest, nurses change individual lives, which is the beginning of changing the world.
My first goal is to complete my prerequisite courses in the coming school year and apply to the Associate Degree nursing program in the spring of 2015. The next goal is to complete the nursing program in spring 2017, pass the NCLEX exam, and begin practicing nursing. Once I have been in the workforce for 2 years, I plan to return to school and earn a bachelor’s degree in nursing.
I also hope that, by my example of returning to college and reaching my goals, I can be an inspiration to other women who may be hesitant to pursue their dreams because of their age. If I can encourage others to take that step to make their dreams a reality, their lives and the lives of those they touch would also be changed.
