“Vision without action is merely a dream. Action without vision just passes the time. Vision with action can change the world”- Joel A. Barker. I have a vision of one day advancing our medical studies into an entirely different realm. With my future, cutting-edge biomedical engineering background, I plan on becoming a renowned tissue engineer. I plan on following in the footsteps and furthering Dr. Doris Taylor’s research of organ scaffolding. She is currently discovering a way to strip organs of their cellular make-up and re-seed them with the essential cells needed to regenerate on the scaffold into a functioning organ. The hope is that this research is an early step toward being able to grow a fully functional human heart in the laboratory. This will bring hope to all the children, who were born with a dysfunctional heart and are in dire need of a transplant. I formulated a strategic plan to follow out my dream. First, receive my B.S. in biomedical engineering from the University of Texas at San Antonio while studying under prestigious researchers. Then, receive my Master’s from Duke University and go on to achieve my PhD/M.D. from there as well. So, as you can see, my vision has action, and will not just be a dream.
