If I were awarded this scholarship, I would be able to afford more classes towards my degree in Social Work. I am majoring in human services, under Social Work and specializing in Addiction Studies. I am working towards my bachelors for now and hope to continue on to my graduate studies. Eventually my goal would be to achieve a Masters Degree, so that I am able to become a Licensed Social Worker. I want to be able to counsel others who struggle with addiction and trauma issues. During my rock bottom, I truly never believed I was put on this earth for any particular reason. I figured I would die from my disease of addiction. Somehow I was given a second chance at life and I will never take it for granted. I have worked so hard to get to where I am now. I feel like a brand new person, with a completely different outlook on life. Recovery is a lifelong process and if I am not giving back to other sick and suffering addicts, then I am not doing my part. I need to give back the gift of sobriety, which was so freely given to me. I have been saved from my addiction in order to save others and I would appreciate your help, so that I can continue to strive to achieve my dream, which is to become a therapist and eventually create and run my own drug/alcohol treatment center so that I can save lives.
