Throughout my growth in life, I’ve learned what it is that I enjoy doing most. During this process, I have discovered that I have an ongoing passion for helping others. I believe that this stems from the connection that I have with my younger brother, Matthew, who has Down Syndrome. He has inspired me to pursue my dreams of becoming a speech language pathologist in the near future. Matthew has struggled all of his life due to his lack of communication skills. As a result, this has motivated me to want to help other people with problems similar to my brother. I truly believe I could change the world by becoming a speech language pathologist. Not only do I want to make a difference in the individual’s life, but in the family’s life as well. At the end of the day, I want to come home from my job knowing I made someone’s life a little better. Whether that may be anything from a smile to pronouncing a word correctly. In my opinion, giving the gift of communication to someone in need of it is simply priceless. In order to achieve my dream of becoming a speech language pathologist, there are specific goals that I will need to accomplish. Such as, maintaining an excellent grade point average, getting admitted into the speech language pathology program, and graduating with a masters degree in the field. I am determined, and I will fulfill my dream.
