The most rewarding experience I’ve ever had has been my work with Become One VOICE of Tracy, California. It is a youth run organization that uses what people are talented at and passionate about to make a difference in the community. In the past, we have held fundraising events to raise money for various well known charities such as United Way, Relay for Life, Walk to End Alzheimer’s, St. Jude’s, and the Make a Wish Foundation-just to name a few. But the best part is knowing that I’m one of the sole reasons we are as successful as we are in my home town. As the Chief of Operations, I’m in charge of planning all the details for our events, from the day’s itinerary to the advertising and so forth. It is an honor knowing that I’m responsible for helping our town come together to change not only our community, but our country, one movement at a time. If I could, I would solely focus all of my efforts into Become One VOICE, however, as it is a charity organization, it is not a paying job, and I have to make a living somehow. Which is why I’ve decided to major in social psychology as it is also one of my passions, and it could potentially further my understanding of how to work with people in this organization. So, in a way, I guess you could say I am already doing what I love most to make a difference.
