I have discovered my passion. I want to improve the well being of children, families, and the elderly. I want to make the biggest impact I can. I enjoy working with people of all ages. I teach pre-school Sunday school at church and I also am a companion and caretaker for an 89 year old church member. Every June I organize a one day carnival event for Carson who lost his battle with pediatric cancer at age five. After just four years we have raised over $40,000.00. The money goes to the oncology ward at Childrens Hospital of Pittsburgh. As you can see the reason I am going back to school is ultimately to give back to others less fortunate and those who can’t always help themselves. I will use the scholarship money to help pay for tuition since we are a one family income. I have stayed at home ever since I got pregnant eight years ago, Now is the perfect time for me to go back to school because by the time I am finishing up school my son will be old enough to look after himself more. I will be changing the world one child, family, or elderly person at a time.
I have set first the goal of graduating with honors with a Bachelor Science degree. Then I will consider graduate school to possibly become a Licensed Social Worker that allows me to do therapy. Finally I will get a job in my field. It can be any entry level job. No one goes into social services for the money. I want to do this because I feel empathy for people who need assistance in life to better themselves. This will not be a job or career for me; it will be a dream come true.
It may not change the world but it sure will change lives and communities. This is why I feel that I deserve the scholarship. At my age I know what it takes to succeed. I am willing to go that extra mile to make a difference.
