Ever since I was eight years old I have had a passion for ancient Egyptian history. I have watched every television show and read every book on the subject that I could. It took me a while to get to where I am now. Life lead me in several different directions including joining the Army. Now, in my final year of college I am so close to completing the first step on my way to becoming an archaeologist. After getting my bachelor’s degree I intend to go on to earn both my master’s and my PHD in archaeology because I believe in doing the best that one can. I have not yet found a grad school to attend but I know of several current professors who will be happy to point me in the right direction. Admittedly, my being an archaeologist might not change the world. However, even the smallest archaeological find can have an immense impact on our understanding of the past. Someday, someone may discover the secret of how the pyramids were built and that could change the way we build things today. After all, the discovery of King Tutankhamen’s tomb changed our understanding of ancient Egypt forever and eventually lead to several other great discoveries. I can only hope to make a discovery of equal importance, but any discovery which helps us to better understand ourselves would be a triumph, because as someone once said, “Those who cannot remember the past are doomed to repeat it.”
