At 44 years old I finally figured out what I want to do as a career, web design. I have been successful as an administrative assistant but I do not find it personally fulfilling, it just pays the bills. My husband of 25 years nearly died last year of a rare illness and it made me re-evaluate my life. I want more than a paycheck, I want to enjoy what I do as well as find it challenging and interesting. I have been doing introductory web design as a hobby for a few years because I find it fun. I decided to go to college to get a degree and pursue it as a career. Web design is a fast growing field utilized by individuals and businesses worldwide. I will be attending college full time in addition to working. Although this will be a challenge, I know I can do it. I learned during my husband’s illness how strong and committed I can be. I am excited to be going back to school. I plan to start my own web design company when I graduate. I also would like to mentor high school students to expose them to web design. I enjoying mentoring others. I have been a roller derby coach for women the past 7 years and I volunteer 9 hours each week to training others how to roller skate and play roller derby. It is a very fulfilling helping others achieve things they didn’t think they could do and see them succeed.
