I had heard about March of Dimes, but I had not experienced it until I attended one of their auctions held to raise money to help research and improve the lives of children who were born prematurely or with birth defects. By attending Johnson & Wales University for Baking and Pastry Arts I was able to attend this event. I realized that even though I wasn’t striving to become a doctor or lawyer I could still help with this cause and many others through Baking and Pastry. I saw many different chefs from Rhode Island and other states who came to create dishes that attracted people to attend the auction and help donate money to such a noble cause. I helped one chef from Castle Hill Inn serve a dessert dish. I realize now that I can help people and a cause… by winning them over with food. I want to earn a living by owning a dessert restaurant and being part of events where I can serve dishes to help raise money for the March of Dimes and other causes for children. I have already begun making this dream into a reality by doing well at Johnson & wales University and by gaining restaurant experience in Gramercy Tavern and Babbo Ristorante. I will continue to work hard in school and in the food service industry by being a sponge and absorbing as much knowledge as possible to become successful and help children in need through the art of desserts.
