If I could earn a living doing what I love most, it would be a geriatric nurse. While working as a certified nurse aide, I realized the differences I made in people’s lives. I firmly believe that I can continue making differences in people’s lives by becoming a nurse. From patients that are in the nursing home for rehabilitation to the ones that are on hospice care, moments of joy and happiness can make a person’s day and can change the patient’s outlook no matter what the patient’s circumstances are. Spending time and getting to know the patients is often forgotten in the practices this day and age because of the workday being hectic and crazy busy. I firmly believe knowing the patient can help getting the customized care need and put them on the fast track to recovery, and that can change the world in the patients’ and the nurse’s eyes.
From being a certified nurse aide, it gave me the drive and desire to become a nurse. Going through the process of reapplying to a college was a difficult process but it gave me the push to want to go back more. Knowing what I want to do for a career gave me the ambition to be a certified nurse aide first so I can work my way up from the bottom. From my experience, knowing how to make someone’s day can make all the difference, and working from the bottom up can help in knowing the field.
