Once there was a beach covered with starfish. A man was trying to throw them back into the ocean one by one. A young girl came to him and asked why he was doing that. Then, he answered that he was trying to save them. The answer sounded funny to the girl. Then, she said, “You are not going to make a difference. There are hundreds of them.” Then, the man took one more starfish and answered back: “I am making a difference on this one.” Then, he threw it back into the ocean.
My name is Gloria Fearon, and I want to make a difference for individual children by being a great teacher. After becoming a mom, I discovered my love for children, and that’s why I decided to go back to school and get my certificate as a teacher.
I started working full- time six years ago with children with special needs. Every day when I go to work, I feel that I love what I am doing and I feel the connection with those children. They are helping me to be a better teacher with my every day experiences. Their smiles and progress are my biggest reward.
I have seen examples of children who need help just like those starfish stranded on the beach. I want to make the difference in their lives, even if is one by one.
