Being a girl is a magical experience; however there are times in a girl’s life where she feels more like the forgotten stepsister than a princess. As a bra specialist at Victoria’s Secret I measure young girls, and help them chose their first bra every day something that they’re not usually thrilled about. I found that by informing them about their body and empowering them to take ownership of their sexuality made them more comfortable, and they opened up to me. I thought about the difference I could make if I could get a group of young girls to open up about more than just bras.
I created a mentorship program called Think Pink. Pink stands for prepared, inspired, nurtured, and knowledgeable. Every Friday a group of my friends and I went to a local middle school and did activities with the girls that focused on body image, goal setting, self-reflection and improvement, and college preparation. If I could do anything for the rest of my life and get paid for it, I would strengthen my program and expand it across the world!
Our mission is to create a cohort of young women who are inspired and empowered to take control of their education, their bodies, and their futures. There is so much confusion and deception in the media. Girls look to actresses, video girls, and their favorite artist’s preferences to define who they should be to be accepted. I want to help every girl discover the magic in her.
