Growing up I always believed that life was about pursuing your dreams. However, as I got older I learned that sometimes life is not about living out your dreams; it is about living out your purpose and finding your passion within that purpose. I always wanted to make the world a better place and I knew that was my purpose. However, finding a dream that fit my purpose was another challenge. I wanted a career where one day at a time, I could make the world a better place. I am currently in an accelerated nursing program where I believe as a nurse I can live out my purpose. I want to continue my education to become a nurse practitioner and become certified to work with children and their families who are affected by cancer. I am a cancer survivor and feel that I can relate to the struggles that these families are going through on a daily basis. When a child is diagnosed with cancer, the whole family is affected. By using my counseling background, combined with my nursing education, I believe that if I can change a person’s outlook, the future becomes brighter. The circle continues when each family begins to pursue their purpose in life.
