As someone who is striving to be the ‘apple that DOES fall far from the tree’ I would love nothing more than to be in the position to show other people who they too can overcome obstacles in their lives and to live a life full of success and achievements. While throughout my childhood I always had everything that I needed for survival and I could certainly say that there were others that had it worse, I do come from a family in which college education and a good paying job were not familiar. While my older brother and younger sister have chosen to continue on the path of my parents, I have chosen to be different, to break the mold, and to obtain my college education as a registered nurse and to break the bond of poverty I have lived with my entire life and to start a new pattern for my family. For the reasons mentioned I am happy to be going into the field of nursing where I will have the opportunity to directly affect not only health of people but to share my experiences to show people who are disadvantaged that they are able to go against the grain and choose a life that they are worthy of and that their past does not dictate what they will become.
