While growing up as a child, I was constantly asked the million dollar question “what do you want to be when you grow up?” All the other kids around me would immediately answer without hesitation “fireman!,” “astronaut,” or “doctor!” I would sit there and think. I honestly had no idea of what I wanted to even consider doing. Around high school, I finally found a group of people who didn’t care that I was lost, they accepted me for who I was, and eventually pulled me into to what I do today. I am absolutely drawn to the theater, and everyone apart of it. I love every part of theater whether it is building a set, hanging lights, or acting on the stage. For me, there is something about stepping on that stage as someone completely different than yourself, and playing for people to enjoy.
Theater is an excellent form of art that anyone can benefit from. You can express yourself, escape to a new reality, Create anything in a new image, and explore a multitude of career options. People everywhere including myself are fighting to keep performing arts in schools because of the positive impact they have on our lives. Without theater in schools, there would be a huge lack of potential being washed down the drain, and a lack of expression. I am grateful to have found theater as my career choice, and I strive to improve my technique and knowledge of the art to someday pass it on to others.
