As a music educator, I would like to start off in a middle or junior high school where the students will be in their early years of learning how to play an instruments so that I can influence the kids and motivate them to stick with band throughout their high school career. I would like to start off in this age group so that way these students will be properly prepared for high school band. As a band director, I want to have an impact on my students. Teachers in general have to challenge students to be the best that they can be and as a music teacher, I would like to challenge my own students to be the best musicians that they can be. I would like to be a positive influence to my students and to teach them the importance of music. Not only the importance of music, I would also encourage them to continue to do band throughout their high school career. I can accomplish this by making music fun for them because if the class is not engaging then the students will not learn from it. Being a teacher isn’t just about to coming to school and giving a lesson on the material; I believe that the teacher has to have a passion for the subject and for the students as well. Someday I hope to make a connection with my students and teach them valuable lessons in music and in life.
