My established my sole dream is to travel the world and getting to know those that we call our global neighbors. Sure we my live across borders and thousands of miles away, but that shouldn’t be something that gets in the way of getting to know each other. Something that I always try to do is to help make foreign exchange students welcome by introducing myself to them taking an interest in their home culture. At first it might be hard to find ties between two individuals, but that is what questions are for! Ask questions and find out what each other are all about: the home cultures and how they differ. Find differences and things alike; all it takes is that initial “hello” or smile to kick start a wonderful global friendship.
Just making that one friend from on the other side of the world that sits on the other side of the classroom can act as a global network in itself. That particular person could have friends all over Europe or Asia that you could potentially be mutual friends with soon. Let’s get out of our comfort zones and say hi to everyone you meet because you never know who you might become best friends with.
