HEADLINE: “Indiana Jones has found the Ark of the Covenant in the hands of the Nazis for reasons unknown. For now, the Ark will be under the jurisdiction of Army Intelligence for further study.”

Since the Raiders of The Lost Ark, audiences were thrilled at the adventure found in careers like archaeology and anthropology. Though these careers aren’t quite as action-packed as their movie counterparts, there is still a curious fascination to be found studying foreign cultures. In fact, I would rather be a cultural anthropologist, a type of scientist that studies society’s impact in history, than another Indiana Jones. A cultural anthropologist can measure the sophistication of ancient civilizations by using artifacts uncovered and build relationships through museums and other scholarly institutes. But before I can step back in time, I have to focus on the future.

In order to pay for the college, I plan to apply for scholarships and find a job on campus. These experiences will improve my writing skills when I attempt to publish my own articles on human interactions and a job sharpens work ethic, which is invaluable when learning a new language. For first-hand knowledge, nothing is better than going to the source, whether that is interning in a museum or participating in the Study Abroad Program. In these programs, I will be able to understand the work and trials expected in my career. With each of these goals being like stepping stones, I will achieve my wish to become a cultural anthropologist.
