As a child I’ve always dreamt of being a surgeon and helping society one patient at a time, however I believed I wouldn’t be able to change the world directly but instead through my patients. Patients who could have been dead had it not been for my actions, they would be the ones to change the world after realizing they could have been in trouble was it not for me and begin to live or continue a prosperous life. Those people would then spread their happiness to others, that’s the change I look forward to, by doing what I loved: helping others, I would indirectly be changing the world. I am nowhere close to accomplishing my dream. I do have a plan, but as Moltke the Elder once said “a plan never survives first contact with the enemy”.
I plan to get myself involved at my school so I can establish as much connections as possible. I hear stories very often of “people knowing others in the right places” to get them something or somewhere they needed to get or be. While at the same time I plan to use Harvard med school’s requirements for admission as a guide. Even though my chances of entrance to Harvard are low, I can use it to guide me in the right direction so that I could, in theory, have an extremely competitive resume. My plan is broad so I could make room for unexpected occurrences because, nothing is ever set in stone.
