If I were to earn a living doing what I love the most, I would spend my life as an investigative reporter. The world we live in is growing and changing at a high-speed pace and the spread of information is more vital than ever for keeping the world connected and in-check. The rise of globalization and our newfound ability to instantly share our lives with one another only furthers our need for informed and balanced journalists that the public can rely on for honest news. From Nellie Bly posing as a patient in an insane asylum to Woodward and Bernstein tracking the Watergate scandal, and all of the thousands of individuals in between who have dedicated their lives to shedding light on injustice, journalists have played important roles in keeping power in check, in our nation and around the world.
I know that not all reporting will be exciting, and that there will be many articles to write on subjects that don’t seem worthwhile, but I plan on gaining as much experience as possible, in as many types of media as I can, so that I can truly find the place I feel the most comfortable and adept at reporting. I’ve begun my first internship, which was a big step for me, and I hope to have many more before I finish my education.
