My parents always told me “if something is worth having, it is worth working hard for”. I could not have had a better life lesson then that.
In 4th grade, after years of struggling with my school work I was diagnosed with a learning disability. I had to re-learn a different way to process information. This was extremely hard and frustrating for me. At the same time I was happy that my educational problems had been diagnosed and they were fixable.
This was not an easy road and involved a lot of hard work and sometimes tears, but I am pleased to say I did well in high school graduating with a 3.5 GPA. I applied to 7 colleges and was accepted at all 7. I even received academic awards from some schools. I never thought that was possible!
I currently attend Wesley College, majoring in legal studies. Last semester my GPA was 3.9. I also joined a sorority and through them, work in the community helping under privileged families.
I hope by telling my story other students will learning disabilities will not give up. After all if it is worth having, it is worth working hard for. My education is worth having!!
