As a child, I was raised in Compton, CA. I didn’t realize how horrible the city was, I just knew it was my home. Growing up I watched some of my closest peers become products of our environment. Some took to drugs and others took to gangs. I was one of the few who dared to be different. When I was 18yrs old, my best friend was brutally murdered in Compton. She was only 17yrs old with the same passion as I. The love of children! We would volunteer at youth foundations to help make a difference. Although she is no longer with me, I have to continue our dream.
I am starting a Non-Profit youth foundation in my friends honor. This foundation will be an outlet for at-risk youth in greater Los Angeles. I would like to save some of our children from being a product of “the hood”. If I can stop at least one child from becoming a murderer, gang member, victim, or homeless, then I have done my part. I refuse to become what I am expected to be. I will not give up on making this dream a reality for myself or my best friend. I am studying business to make my dream a reality. I will focus and do everything that is needed of me. Not just for me, but to help make the world a better place. My journey so far has been amazing and I will not stop here.
