I want to study major in Child and Adolescent Development and become an elementary school teacher and a folklorico teacher. I plan on getting my teaching credentials at San Jose State and continue dancing Folklorico, and join other Folklorico groups to improve my dancing and learn more. My main goal is becoming a teacher. I have lived in horribly poor areas. I want to give back to my community by inspiring others to continue their education. I want to help them find their passion in Fine Arts like I have. Dancing is my passion. When I was young and foolish, I was ashamed to be Mexican. My family happily celebrated Dia de Los Muertos, Dia de Los Santo Reyes, La Cumpleños de La Virgen Maria, and Posadas. At school, everyone would eat lunchables and hamburgers, while I ate my taquitos de frijoles. I began hating Mexican Regional Music and anything involved with Mexico. Then in high school, I was introduced to Folkorico. It was beautiful. There was many different colors of skirt, the many different outfits, the different styles and regions of dancing. 4 years later, I am now the most proud and confident Mexican on Xochitl Cultural Folklorico Dance Troupe. I have performed many folklorico concerts, but my most prominent concert was performing at the Sap Center for ¡Viva Fest!, live, with Mariachi Sol de Mexico. If it wasn’t for high school, I would never have discovered my passion for folklorico. Many students quit school even before high school. I want to help them discover their passion for either dancing, singing, art, or any other type of subject. School is an inspiration, but many student fail to see it. I want to teach the valuable morals like cheating does not help you learn the concept and there is more than one way to find an answer. In San Jose State, my applied major is Music Education, but I want to change that to Child and Adolescent Development. I want to focus more on teaching various subjects, than just one. Once I become a teacher, I will help my student pursue a successful career, just like my teacher have done for me.
