My name is Tiah Smith, and I am a graduate from Perry High School in Perry, Georgia.I plan to attend Savannah State University majoring in Fine Arts, with a minor in business. My professional goal is to be employed as a fine artist or a graphic designer in a large corporation.
For as long as I could remember, I have wanted to pursue a career in art. I want to be that person who has a creative mind and, at the same time, the one whose masterpieces the world enjoys. Being an artist isn’t a profession, it’s a calling. When I draw, it brings me great pleasure and lets me express myself and who I am. Art is what everybody needs in order to understand and interpret their inner self, and find the way to express their feeling and ideas. This is what I consider the main principle behind my artwork. In high school, I participated in National Art Honor society. To reach my goals, I realize that I must pursue a four year college education which will begin with the Fall 2014 semester. I am very excited about my future and feel that with the opportunity your scholarship will provide, I can work towards a very successful future.
In order to obtain success, first, I have to obtain knowledge. To gain knowledge, I need a college education. Due to the high financial costs of college, my limited financial aid support, I am hopeful scholarships will support my desire to continue my education. It’s becoming more and more difficult for people to attend college. As we all know, college can be quite expensive, and living on your own while going to school in this economy is tough and extremely stressful. Earning this scholarship would be a huge help with paying for my books, room and board, and even part of my tuition.
Earning this scholarship will benefit me personally, professionally, and emotionally. Since I was a little girl, I strived to be successful in life, independent, and a productive member of society. My parents are always willing to help, and I already have the moral support of my family and friends, however, that is not quite enough to make my dream come true. I want to show them I am self-sufficient; that I can actually do something to help myself out as well. This scholarship will allow me to not depend on my parents as much.
My high attendance, academic achievements, determination, time management, and motivation are all reasons to why I believe I deserve this scholarship. I am persistent, unique, and can overcome any obstacles thrown my way. Like many other students I know, I have traveled a bumpy road to get where I am today, but those obstacles gave me strength and helped me move forward and push harder. I carry my scars like badges of honor. All the hard work and determination I put into high school, my job, and the volunteering and extra-curricular activities I have been a part of show why I truly deserve this.
My parents always told me, “You work for what you want.” I want to more out of my life, and to be different than anyone else. I just want to make a difference and graduate college, and I am doing my best to save money through working and saving every penny I earn anywhere else, but that isn’t enough. To reach my goals, I need as much help as possible. I need an education because it is the key to success in life. I know the courses in college will be challenging, but I am willing to do whatever it takes to make it in this world. It would be an honor to be awarded a scholarship so that I may achieve my goals and earn my degree. I hope that your organization can help me reach this dream by contributing to my success through awarding me your scholarship.
