Speaking Spanish and indulging in the rich Hispanic culture is the thing that I am most passionate about. I adore all things cross cultural and I intend to someday revolutionize the advertising industry by eliminating language barriers and promoting education about Hispanic and Latino cultures among American companies and marketing firms. This would drastically improve marketing relations between the U.S. and all Spanish-speaking nations as it would eliminate the risk of cultural and lingual gaffes that American companies so often make (e.g. the Chevy Nova’s marketing issues in South America). With my thorough knowledge of the Hispanic and Latino cultures, I would be able to give my employers the upper hand in attracting the business of the rapidly-growing population of Spanish-speakers in the United States by pinpointing the values of that culture and incorporating those values into advertising. In order to reach this goal, I must first acquire degrees in both Spanish and Marketing at Greenville College. I will also complete a semester (or more) abroad in a Spanish-speaking country in order to study their culture, their language, and what makes drives their purchasing desires. Finally, after graduation, I will offer my services to a select number of American companies seeking to increase their international and cross-cultural relations and reach largely untapped reserves of the consumer market. If I complete these goals, I truly believe that I will be able to make an impact literally on a global scale.
