As a substitute Teacher at a Head Start I fell in love with children and they returned that love to me but I had to stop due to a Brain tumor. First let me say I have a daughter who is Autistic and been on the principal’s list for 9 years of schooling. She was my inspiration that a ‘hiccup’ doesn’t mean you have to stop trying to breath. I decided that I wanted to come off disability and go back to living. So I signed up to go to Kaplan University. I had not decided what I wanted to do as far as grade to teach but I know one issue I wanted to help in is allowing all children to have an equal education.. Head Start is geared toward low-income families and I believe that is where I belong. I want ‘No child left behind’ to become accountable for the system it has set in motion. As much as the Government tries, only love for children and their families will ever really be what motivates our children and that is what I want .No matter what environment they live in, how much income their family has, or developmental issues they have…I want to be that one person in their corner who can show them a better way to look at life. Head Start should really live up to its name and that is what I want as my career…to be a child’s HEAD START!
