My dream job is the one I am currently in. I am a Lieutenant Correctional Officer with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. When I ask myself what is a Correctional Officer? The Definition in the dictionary is a person responsible for the supervision, safety, and security of prisoners in a prison, jail, or similar form of secure custody. But to me it is so much more. I do not just secure prisoners in a prison. I aid to rehabilitate them in to functioning members of society. A better definition of my job would be a person responsible for the supervision, safety, security and rehabilitation of prisoners to aid in their return into society. It is my goal to become a Director with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. I have seen that in my current position that I can make a difference, in the live of those individuals that have committed some of the worst crimes. These offenders are people who have made a mistake and, many can be rehabilitated with the aid of people like me who can correct their behavior. Correctional Officers have stressful job. It can be rewarding when you know that you have aided to help an offender become a functioning members of society. To continue to be able to help these offenders, I need to equip myself with the tools, College Education, Specialized Training which, I will need to assist them and give them the tools they need to become functioning members of society.
