Finding the Cure
By: Rukeishaya Bonner
If I could earn a living doing something I love it would be becoming a Medical Assistant and specializing in Oncology. I have known I wanted to be a nurse since I was 5 years old. So my drive to fulfill this desire and goal has been within me for many years. The drive was heighten when my role model my Aunt Liz was diagnosed with breast cancer. She was a nurse and just the love and passion she had for her job glowed within her face and showed from her patients and co-workers. My aunt fought a long battle with breast cancer and over the years the strength she displayed through this time, and the struggle it was to bare watching her slip away, sparked a fire within me. I vowed that I would enter the medical field as a Medical Assistant, and specialize in Oncology; I will continue to climb the ladder in the Medical field and obtain my Masters in Nursing and specialize in Oncology. I want to help in finding a cure for Breast Cancer, thus opening the door for finding cures for other cancers. I can help the world but helping one person at a time. When a person is given the diagnosis of cancer, life can almost stop but yet the heart still beats, and my researching and aiding in the fight against cancer, I can make the word “Cancer” seem as the common cold, no more will that word take someone’s glow away, but their glow will shine brighter knowing the work I have done will make the fight a winning battle.
