My name is Taylor Denara and I am an upcoming sophomore at Cornell University. I am currently a Policy Analysis and Management major looking to specialize in health policy and possibly attend law school. If I pursue law, I intend to change the world through my background in policy as a domestic violence lawyer, specifically dealing with cases pertaining to sexual abuse. As a student, I have become increasingly aware of the numerous occasions of sexual assault and violence surrounding college campuses. After becoming a Consent Ed Ambassador for my sorority and learning about all the measures that we can take in order to prevent sexual abuse, I wish to expand this information not only on my campus but also in campuses across the world. I wish to minimize the occurrence of such acts by increasing the number and efficiency of policies directed towards the deterrence of sexual assault as well as aid towards its victims. Prior to coming to college, I lived in a sheltered community where sexual assault and abuse was not nearly talked about as substantially as it should have been. Introducing programs to discuss these issues, while at times difficult to discuss, may help incoming students to become aware and ready to deal with such a situation if it were to occur. I wish to empower students and instill confidence to minimize the occurrence of sexual abuse and assault in order to make college and education an enjoyable experience for both women and men worldwide.
