I was in the third grade when I met Mrs. Durnan, one of my most beloved schoolteachers and a brilliant educator. She was a kind woman with boundless energy and unlimited patience. Years later, I still remember her with fondness and it was her love of education that inspired me to pursue a career in the enrichment of young minds. It is now my dream to spend my adult years as a high school teacher and introduce students to the joys of literature. In addition, I wish to inspire students to find their own voices and write their own stories. We all have a tale to tell and storytelling is one of the most ancient ways of unifying mankind. Through the study of literature, and indeed through all forms of education, I believe teachers hold the key to unlocking a better future and making the world a better place. I am currently working towards my dream of being in the classroom and changing the world one young mind at a time through the attainment of my Bachelor’s degree in English and Masters in the Art of Teaching at Fairleigh Dickinson University’s Teacher Preparation QUEST program. In addition to a career as a public school teacher, I plan on becoming certified in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) in order to spread a love of education and knowledge all over the world. As John Dewey once said, “Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself.”
