They say that those who love their jobs never go to work a day in their lives. Since I was a little girl, designing homes has been more of a hobby for me than anything else. I have wanted to go into the field of interior design ever since then. Since I love doing designs just for fun, then being paid to do it would be a dream come true! After going to college, I will be able to find a job as a licensed interior designer and get to do it every day.
People usually overlook my job thinking of the functionality of buildings. They think that only engineers and architects have input on how to make a building more efficient. For example, there is a large portion of my field devoted to medical venues. In these places, interior designers must think about a variety of materials that are safe and durable. In bathrooms, floors cannot be slick, surfaces must be easily washable, and spaces must be handicapped accessible. However, the stigma against practical spaces is that they are unappealing. I feel that I have the talent to combine both style and function to the spaces I design. I love the idea that I can make life easier for people and use my design talents simultaneously.
My goals are to go to college, get internships that help me find roots in the field, graduate, and get a job. I may even like to open my own design firm someday!
