The county I live in is considered fairly wealthy compared to neighboring counties in the state. Years ago this community provided food for many as it was mainly farmland. Now years later, there is a flourishing Food Pantry, The Shepherd’s Shelf and ten minutes away from there another food pantry and soup kitchen, Manna on Main Street both located within minutes of the new Culinary Arts Institute of Montgomery County Community College. Is this really possible? How could there be huge homes, flourishing businesses and nice restaurants, where there is not enough food for hundreds of people? They provide for their families by picking up jarred pasta sauce, sugary boxed cereals and canned vegetables. Can they live on this? Well yes they can. I think they deserve better. I will change this in my community and network out to change one area at a time.
I will provide my community with delicious meals in a donation only restaurant so that the man who just lost his job and collecting welfare, can take his family to have a restaurant quality meal. I also want to provide a meal for the executive who earns a 100K, does not have the time to help in the community, but wants to make a difference by donating money for his meal and the table next to him.
I am requesting the financial support now while I am learning. Then when I have finished my education start a non-profit organization to fund this endeavor.
