Haiti is the poorest nation in the western hemisphere, the situation has only worsened following a devastating earthquake that has left the disadvantaged without a fighting chance. It’s a place special to me because it’s my birthplace. As you would imagine my mom’s courageous journey to America was for a chance at a better life. Despite our financial hardships my mother always encouraged me to reach my potential, to achieve and to excel.

My dream as a college student is to offer to the disadvantaged something I’ve always had – Hope. Hope that they can see another day, a brighter day. As I’ve advanced in my schooling I started to realize the abysmal conditions of the developing third world. They experience ever increasing debt and an economic infrastructure that simply isn’t effective for enabling improvements in their dire situation.

As a computer science and finance major, I plan to use my technical and financial savvy to start a non-profit foundation that is dedicated to improving the living conditions of the inhabitants of the third world countries to enable them to help themselves.

I envision an online campaign, where people from all over the world can read, learn, then take a proactive stance in helping both the immediate needs they have and enabling the developing nations to be self-sufficient by offering not just money and supplies but their time and their expertise.

Following the example of countries such as Singapore which has transitioned from a third world to a prominent first-world country.
