I am in an enviable position, I believe.
I have the opportunity to be able to follow my bliss, and make it my profession. I am going to be an art teacher, but not in the traditional sense. Hopefully, once my student teaching is completed, I will not even have to darken the doors of another school, for I wish to set up an online curriculum for homeschoolers and unschoolers which will enable me to interact directly with the students and address their needs and assess their work in a fun, engaging and meaningful manner.
The first part of my journey started two years ago, when I applied to Ohio State University and entered the art education program. Just last semester I was one of 25 students selected to enter the program. Now I just need to make it the next two years to make it to the next step, teaching.
How would my work change the world? I hope it would help show how education at large should be changed. Our education system has been mired in callous complacency for years, when the solution has been staring us in the face—self-directed learning, with an entertaining and engaging aspect. I have the desire to help move the world in a better direction, through my instruction. If I can get this to work, It will be the ultimate high point of my life, so far.
I am close, so very close to my goal.
And nothing will stop me now.
