As a young child I had dreams of being an astronaut, a professional athlete, or someone on CSI. While most people do not follow their childhood dreams, mine led the way to my ultimate career goal. In high school forensic science drew my attention. As I researched the career options for a forensic investigator career, I came across the medical examiner, also known as a coroner. Since that day I have come to the conclusion that my ultimate career goal is to be Medical Examiner Courtney Cole. If I had the financial resources to make my dreams come true I would pursue an education to reach that goal.
A coroner has the chance to change the lives of individuals, families, and the community. Death ends the journey on Earth, but has the potential to improve the lives of those left behind. Data collected by a medical examiner can offer clues that lead to healthier lifestyles for the living. The medical examiner can also provide closure for families of loved ones whose death was violent or sudden. It can help in seeing that no one is forgotten and that justice has been served. There is a saying that one person can make a difference in the world and I feel that life itself is a gift. I intend on changing the world one victim and family at a time.
