I have always loved creating artwork. I have found that my thoughts, ideas, and feelings to come together easier and make more sense to me as I create, and everything in my head is more coherent and easier to express the closer I come to finishing a piece. I believe there are many people in the world who have found themselves desperate to be understood, but who struggle to arrange words in a way that accurately describes their situations. Often times young children face this difficulty, but there is no age limit. Even as a young adult I have felt my words failing me when conversation turned towards difficult emotions or circumstances. Silence can be immensely humiliating when there is someone in the room who expects you to fill it with sounds. I want to assist others in finding a way to express themselves through creation. I am currently majoring in Art and minoring in Psychology. I will go on to graduate school to earn my master’s degree in Counseling so that I can become an Art Therapist. I don’t believe poor articulation should stand in the way of a person increasing their well-being through therapy, and I intend to provide a means of communicating with these people that is more comfortable and more natural through the use of art.
