As a young woman who is a part of the 21st century, I have been exposed to television shows and media outlets that document and illustrate the sex lives of teenagers and young adults. Some of the issues discussed within those television shows and reported by numerous media outlets include teenage pregnancy, promiscuity, and “rape culture.” Therefore, if I could earn a living doing something that I am passionate about and feel could change the world for the better, I would advocate for safe and consensual sex. I understand that it is a topic that some wish to not discuss, but I feel that young men and women should be aware of the effects that sex can have on their bodies both physically and mentally. Advocating for safe and consensual sex would not only lower statistics of teenage pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases, but it would also impact this “rape culture” which young men and women are exposed to on a daily basis. I plan to study community and public health while attending college in hopes to later on work with an organization such as Planned Parenthood. I would love to some day see a change in America on we as a whole deal with a subject like this.
